David Winer 2

Choosing the wrong attorney can have dire consequences and David J. Winer encourages any client to fully research a prospective attorney and review their experience, educational background, professional Bar Association involvement, authored publications etc. The biography below shows his extensive experience of over twenty years of practice focusing in Secretary of State law as well as DUI/Traffic and criminal defense.

In choosing the right attorney make an informed decision and take these considerations into account.

  • The right background for your particular situation: You must choose an attorney that concentrates solely in your area of need. Law has become increasingly complex and you need an attorney that is familiar with that insight. If you need a real estate or injury attorney, then hire that type of attorney. David J. Winer has concentrated primarily in Secretary of State law, DUI/traffic defense and criminal law for one simple reason. He strives to be the best in these areas and to keep up to date on the complexity of new and changing laws.
  • Does the attorney have the credentials and experience for your type of case: Your attorney must have the legal skill and experience to give you the best representation you deserve. Review David J. Winer’s biography below to confirm that he has background, skill and experience you need.
  • Accessibility and Clear Communication: Your attorney must be accessible to answer any questions, who will promptly return your calls and be familiar with the status of your case. David J. Winer takes the time to educate his clients about their case, explain the law and their legal options. You will receive an honest and direct assessment of your case in plain language.

There are many attorneys who advertise online and often make broad unsubstantiated claims. I firmly believe that to choose the right legal counsel a potential client needs to focus on whether the attorney:

  1. Practices exclusively in your area of law
  2. Has extensive familiarity in the legal community
  3. The requisite experience solely in DUI/Traffic & Secretary of State law and, finally
  4. Is available for open communication and charges a reasonable fee.

Due to the complexity of law it is critical to choose the right attorney for your particular situation as the wrong one can have dire consequences. I encourage any potential client to comprehensively research and speak with their prospective attorney. The biography below shows David Winer’s extensive experience of over twenty-five years of practice focusing solely in Criminal, DUI/Traffic and Secretary of State law. You can depend on him to fully pursue your interests. The best advertisement is not the Internet or marketing, but a satisfied client!!

You need an attorney that will consider these long-term effects and you must make a fully informed decision. Below are important considerations about David J. Winer.

BEFORE BECOMING A PARTNER WITH THE LAW OFFICES OF WINER & WINER

It was clear to David that criminal law was his passion. While studying for his undergraduate degree in Criminology at the University of Iowa, David interned with the Coralville Police Department. In this capacity, David rode along daily with patrol officers and saw first-hand the criminal justice system, where he witnessed investigation, execution of warrants, arrests, interrogation, and trial. This invaluable experience continued while in law school he interned for the State’s Attorney Office and was assigned to the felony trial division where he participated in major felony cases.

LAKE COUNTY PUBLIC DEFENDER’S OFFICE

In 1988, immediately upon graduation from law school David was hired by the Lake County Public Defender’s Office where he was involved in every aspect of the criminal system. In a very brief period of time, he was soon recognized as a leading trial attorney and quickly built a reputation for aggressive and successful litigation. David worked in all divisions of the Lake County Courthouse, including:

  • Felony Trial Division assigned to the Chief Judge’s Courtroom
  • Felony Preliminary Hearing Division
  • Misdemeanor and Domestic Violence Trial Division
  • DUI and Traffic Trial Division

During his assignment at the Felony Trial Division, David participated in every type of felony case, from simple possession of drugs to complex murder trials. Frequently, these high profile cases were reported in the news where David’s cases have been covered in the Chicago Tribune, Sun Times, Daily Herald and News Sun. His cases have also been covered by television networks, including ABC, CBS, NBC, CLTV, Fox, Telemundo, and Univision. As a result of his reputation and vast experience, David grew intimately familiar with the inner workings of the courthouse, its personnel, and procedures.

LEGAL CONSULTANT IN SOUTH AFRICA

Following his experience at the Lake County Public Defender’s Office, in 1992 David was hired as a legal consultant to assist in the development of South Africa’s first Public Defender’s Office in Johannesburg. He also worked for the Legal Resource Centre a human rights law office, and provided guest lectures on Comparative Criminal Law at the Law School of the University of Pretoria. At that time South Africa was still under apartheid law and he had the unique opportunity to experience first-hand the inequities of an unjust legal system. This invaluable experience only strengthened his resolve to fight for his client’s rights.

PRIVATE PRACTICE

Upon returning from South Africa in 1993, David entered private practice with his father Harold, and brother Evan. The Winer name has been a presence in Lake County since 1961 where Harold Winer has been a fixture in the Lake County legal community. Often called the “Dean of Lake County” Harold Winer was awarded, “The President’s Award” the most prestigious honorary by the Lake County Bar Association.

It was this partnership that created the most respected law firms in Lake County that solely practices Criminal Law, Traffic-DUI and Secretary of State License Hearings. From the outset David J.
